the Sunshine Residents and Ratepayers Association inc, representing the interests of Harvester Ward and beyond, look back upon the deeds of this outgoing Brimbank City Council and do declare:
We listened as you were described in the Victorian parliament as outrageous, scandalous and corrupt.
We watched as you bankrupted the Sydenham community centre after putting councillors on the board and in management positions, and their relatives among the staff.
We watched too as you diverted $2.6 million assigned for parks and gardens, and in the process funded a 1 million dollar pavilion for the football club you are a life member of. |

When a 14 year old boy was stabbed during a gang fight at Sunshine railway station in 2005, the State Member for Derrimut, Telmo Languiller said the incident was so serious that he would “make a personal report” to then-Premier Steve Bracks.
That Premier showed his concern by commissioning a report which took more than 12 months to complete. It blamed inadequate housing, education and sports and recreation services for the rise in youth crime in the west.
And to show how “seriously” the government has taken the problem since then, police statistics for 2008 tell us that Brimbank is now the most crime-ridden municipality in the state apart from Melbourne City. |

Sunshine Residents & Ratepayers Association Inc., (SunRRA) has complained to Consumer Affairs regarding ‘false and misleading’ advertising by Brimbank Mayor Sam David and Brimbank Council.
Less than a month after being caught out lying to Brimbank residents about the diversion of public funds to a soccer club of which he is a life member, Mayor Sam David has now deceived the entire municipality by stating that Brimbank’s annual hard waste collection service is free to residents.
The ongoing barrage of deceit means the Sunshine community can never TRUST the Mayor and his factional associates ever again. |

A renegade Councillor’s press statement risks inflaming political and ethnic tensions within the municipality and raises serious questions about the fitness of our councillors to govern.
The press statement released by Brimbank's Deputy Mayor Kathryn Eriksson on Thursday July 17 2008 followed a ‘Special’ Council meeting held the night before. The meeting dissolved into chaos when Cr Natalie Suleyman moved to have the ‘Council Facilities & Reserves Allocation Policy’ heard ‘in camera’. In camera items require the public to leave the chamber and the item is debated and voted on in private. The results of an in camera item cannot be released to the public and are considered confidential.
Brimbank Council has reached a new low in governance, transparency and accountability. The ratepayers and residents of Brimbank should be very worried by this latest benchmark of excluding public scrutiny on public policy. Community groups are alarmed by the declining democratic processes administered by Brimbank Councillors. |

Confirmation that Brimbank councillor Anthony Abate has been appointed CEO of the St Albans Migrant Resource Centre has been met with alarm in the Brimbank community. Labor councillor Abate is a member of BCC's ruling "Suleyman" faction which has been racked by continuing allegations of conflict of interest, nepotism and fraud.
A number of Brimbank councillors already serve on the MRC board of management - including Crs Zukalski and Capar - while its chairman is the alleged Labor Party branch stacker Hakki Suleyman. Suleyman also works as electoral officer for State Planning Minister Justin Madden.
There are fears in the community that the MRC is set for the same fate as the Sydenham Community Centre. Crs Zukalski and Suleyman ran the SCC into bankruptcy in 2007 with allegations of fraud being raised in State Parliament. Initial concerns about a possible $50,000 fraud were upgraded to as much as $200,000. |
