At first sight the H.V. McKay Memorial Gardens in Sunshine look incongruous in the industrial landscape of Melbourne's west.
Rather than an anomaly, these gardens actually evolved as an integral part of the industry of the west. With the Fletcher Jones Gardens in Warrnambool, they are an early and rare Australian example of an industrial garden and as such were listed on the Register of the National Estate in 1993
