A number of others perhaps could be brought out in an investigation by an independent commission, people like Bill Shorten, the federal member for Maribyrnong. It is well known that Bill Shorten is a factional head kicker. He will more than kick your head, as a number of people in this chamber could attest, and given half a chance he will kick it off! What role did he play? I too have heard rumours about Bill Shorten’s role in this. I have heard stories about Bill Shorten’s involvement with various people at and around Brimbank council. I would like to know if they are true. Without an investigation and an independent commission we cannot find out. Here we have a man who is destined, so he will tell us, to be Prime Minister of Australia, but we cannot find out the truth about him because we do not have an independent commission.

A spokesman for Mr Shorten, whose Maribyrnong electorate takes in Brimbank, said his name was not mentioned once in the Ombudsman's report into the council, which was released last May.
Mr. Shorten's spokesman fails to mention the bleedin obvious..............The Ombudsman's power stop short of being able (have the power) to investigate Ministers!
There were sign posts throughout the Brimbank investigation by the Ombudsman which pointed to Ministerial collusion in some matters but at those points the Ombudsman would withdraw enquiries that related to the Minister's as his powers did not apply to this body.
Shorten knows this and is putting his own spin out there.

Latest Small Area Labor Market figures show unemployment hit 12.1 per cent across the south of Brimbank last December compared to a national average of 5.6 per cent.
Social campaigner Les Twentyman said the jump was the tip of the iceberg for youth unemployment, running at 60 per cent in some western suburbs.
"We've got to get to the Bill Shortens and Julia Gillards who can do something about this and let them know the western suburbs is haemorrhaging and needs fixing today," he said.

Has our man Bill Shorten managed to do anything at all for his portfolio? What is it? Parliamentary secretary?
http://www.theaustralian.com.au/politics/grassroots-drive-for-mental-health-boost/story-e6frgczf-1225867468203
ACTIVIST group GetUp! is targeting the need for better mental health funding as one of its key campaigns in the months leading to the federal election, citing a "disappointing" lack of action from the Rudd government on the issue.
The movement's stance means there is unlikely to be any let-up in the intensifying criticisms of the Rudd government over its paltry $117 m funding boost for mental health confirmed in last week's budget.

let's hope Kev can give Bill a short kick up the bum.

I know what Bill will be is doing, him and the other MPs involved in the rorting of the west for their political gains are practising over and over again different ways of saying "No comment".
Not much else going on at all; hasn't done jack shite except be party to screwing over the area further through his inaction.

Here is a pic of Bill from his latest taxpayer-funded flyer "surrounded by local MPs". It is titled "Grade separation for St Albans crossing" and goes
"In response to pressure from residents, traders and local and federal and state MPs, the state government is investigating a grade spraration at Main Rd Level crossing"
"Is investigating"? The rest of the blurb is written as though it has already been built. Bill even quotes himself "grade separation will bring the two halves together, improving amenity".
Amazing, what they don't investigate these days.

This picture says a thousand words doesn't it?.
Notice how Tim Pallas is the only one who is looking at the camera, and the only one who is named in the caption.
But there are Bill and Brendan O'Connor making eye contact over Tim's shiny head, Bill is making a crack about branch stacking. You can tell it is about branch stacking because Brendan is giving Bill that knowing look, while Telmo behind them thinks its really funny he likes a branch stacking joke.
Marlene Kairouz thinks its funny too because she is still learning how it works with the branch stacking and she is trying to attract Bill's attention by smiling louder than Brendan or Telmo can.
The representatives of St Albans Traders are right in the background my god you can hardly see them and who is that behind Marlene, or has she grown an extra pair of legs?

PROMINENT federal MP Bill Shorten secured his spot in Parliament with the support of Victoria's most notorious Labor branch stackers, a former party insider alleges.
And, for the first time, the branch-stacking claims by the insider and whistleblower, Costas Socratous, have been confirmed
The opposition has called on Mr Brumby to set up a corruption commission and immediately investigate corruption within the Labor Party.

Mr Seitz denied he was a branch stacker. ''Bill Shorten was still in nappies when some of my members joined the party,'' he said. Branch stacking had only arisen in the party ''in the last few years''.
SO GEORGE STATES THAT HE KNEW ABOUT BRANCH STACKING
Mr Conroy, Mr Theophanous and Mr Languiller have denied knowledge of branch stacking
LETS SEE THESE GUYS COME UP ROSES

Who are you kidding?? I mean the reason George really comes around for a cup of tea and a biscuit , is to discuss the global economy, the lack of infrastructure in the West to support the needs of the community, and off course the fact that Brimbank is again in the top 2 most violent regions in Victoria ...the fact that it is nearing the ending date of ALP renewals, is well...sheer coincidence , isn't it George.

http://www.theaustralian.com.au/politics/keating-savages-nsw-labor-rights-lack-of-ideology/story-e6frgczf-1225873742445
FORMER prime minister Paul Keating has delivered a withering attack on the NSW Right faction, arguing that it lacks an ideology "other than the sheer pursuit of power" and risks the future of the Rudd government.
In an interview published in the book, Mr Keating says the NSW Right (centre unity) faction lacks an ideology.
"When I say an ideology . . . it lacks an ideology other than the sheer pursuit of power . . . it's clear enough about that, but power for what? And to do what?"

It looks like the Rudd government might be one of the few in the last century that will last only one term. IF so, it will be a resounding vote of no confidence in what the ALP has become - with its branch stackers and god knows what other forms of corruption.
Bill will have to update his spiel. Remember when he said you needed a new team to win a grand final? Remember that one?
Well Bill hasn't exactly kicked any goals, has he. Not done anything for his portfolio, not done anything for his constituents. Only for his branch stacking mates he got them nice jobs and promotions in the party.
So that's what Bill will do for us in the next three years if people are still stupid enough to vote for him. He will do t\nothing for us, and look after his mates.

Butter wouldn't melt in his mouth, would it? From the Advocate this week
Dear Sir
I am writing to respond to allegations made by former councillor Costas Socratous in last week's issue of the Advocate that I was aware of his self-confessed financial misconduct and breaches of ALP rules.
I deny these allegations emphatically and note that Mr Socratous has not provided any proof to back up his claims.
I support the enquiry that the ALP's Victorian branch is conducting into Mr Socratous' claims.
His comments are also deeply insulting to the hundreds of ALP members in the Maribyrnong electorate who give their time and effort to the party, simply because they believe in it's ideals.
I am proud to be part of a government blah blah blah.
Yours ever so gratefully,
Bill xoxoxo
