There was no vote. There was a lousy information meeting with virtually no information.
You are incorrect.
The meeting was held in October 2008 (all members were invited to attend), and endorsed by all members at the AGM in March 2009.
Were the members at the meeting on Oct 2008 made aware of the conditions which the McKay family placed on the bequested land and the need to provide service to veterans and their families?
Were the members at the 8 Oct meeting voting for a private residential development for veterans and their families or for a quite different social housing development?

What are you people sooking about?
These women will come straight out of prison and have the time of their life spending their dole cheque at the pokies and drinking at the bar. Well time of their life for the first days of each fortnight anyway.
Um, what's the plan for these remaining twelve days of each week for the inmates? Maybe someone can ask the Minister for Respect? lol

Over 10 years ago the trustees of the Sunshine RSL signed their land over to the Victorian Branch of the Returned Service League (Anzac House) Therefore the land is now owned by Vic Branch of the RSL as so stated on the titles.

Anyone trying to defend the dirty work of the Sunshine RSL and ANZAC House Victoria are kidding themselves. Thank God that most people all know that the Sunshine RSL and ANZAC House Victoria are money hungry scum bags. Anyone can say whatever they want to defend them so they can sleep at night, but the fact of the matter is, Sunshine RSL have involved themselves in a dodgy deal to benefit themselves at the expense of the community. It baffles me that people still enter the premises- why would anyone support local business if it doesn't support it's community? It's a real shame that the Sunshine RSL have ruined all that it stands for. Pass it on....

Sunshine RSL should be boycotted as a minimum. Picketing is another option.

The Sunshine RSL and Anzac House know the Mckay family's intentions were for the land to be used for veterans and their families.
The social housing deal flies in the face of the McKay's family bequest intentions.
The Sunshine RSL and Anzac House's approach seems very disrespectful of the family's wishes and against everything most people felt the RSL stood for.
The message the Sunshine community can take from this shabby deal is never to trust the RSL and never strike a gentleman's agreement with them.

SUNSHINE residents have called on the State Government to sack Planning Minister Justin Madden, after a leaked email shattered community confidence in his decisions.
"We've always said all along that he rushed through the Sunshine RSL decision with absolutely no regard for the community's wishes and this proves it."

2010 Annual General Meeting will be held Sunday March 14 at 1030 a.m.
at the Sub Branch 99 Dickson St Sunshine.
All financial ordinary, life and affilliated members are requested to attend.
Are sunshine's community groups organising a session on the 14th after the members meeting to let the RSL members know just how much anger and disappointment there is in the Sunshine community about the way this issue has been handled by Anzac House and their committee?

its been in the media that often over the past months all the members know how dodgy the process has been. it'd be a wasted effort. im tipping resignations from the committee though as the way they have handled this one has struck at the heart of the RSL spirit and values.

Some poor guy was attacked on Dickson Street last night about 11pm while walking past Kevin Wheelahan Park towards the station on his way to work. A male approached him and asked for some money, when the victim said he didn't have any, he was punched in the face severely and fell to ground. He was taken to hospital by ambulance. The attacker didn't rob him, just walked off down Pizzey Street.
What a great neighbourhood to build housing for vulnerable women and their children!

Mr Brumby, who was in Geelong last week to meet city leaders, squared blame on the adviser saying he had ``never seen a plan like that'' in his time in politics.
Well he must not have seen the development for SUnshine RSL yet. But Madden definitely has because he has been quoted in the paper about it.
``It may create a perception about process and in order to ensure that there is no perception about process in relation to any development projects in our state, I've decided that she should be removed from that office and she will,'' he said.
Well on this basis Madden should be removed from that office also for the Sunshine RSL approval that has broken the RES codes and that the community is also against.
``Every project in Victoria, including in the Geelong region, goes through the appropriate planning processes and these processes include rigorous checks and balances,'' a spokeswoman said.
What a load of rubbish. How can they say that when they are pushing through with SUnshine RSL project which cramps in 30 tiny units on 4 house blocks abutting a pokies venue and bar, with the housing intended for rehabilitation of women out of prison and single mums from problem backgrounds.
Living in a hole next door to a pokies venue is not rehabilitation.
Madden must be called to task for over ruling the council and forcing this development that nobody wants except the greedy developers.

Madden sparks fury in Coburg

PLANNING Minister Justin Madden's controversial ''call-in'' powers to expedite new development have been called flawed and lacking in transparency, with a local council lashing out over plans for a residential and commercial project in Coburg.
The state government's redevelopment of the former Kodak factory has sparked anger within Moreland City Council, with Moreland's director of city development, Roger Collins, slamming the government for not giving adequate warning to council officers or residents when a development plan for the site was released shortly before last Christmas.
Mr Collins said the plan for the 20-hectare site also fell short of earlier proposals in the amount of affordable housing it would provide and its use of accessible and environmentally sustainable design.
''Council believes that the consultation process for the Kodak Development Plan has been inadequate at best,'' Mr Collins wrote in a submission to Mr Madden. ''The lack of an appropriate consultation strategy is poor practice and not in the spirit of an open, accountable and transparent decision-making process so often cited by yourself.''
He cites poor communication with council officers when the plan was released and little notice when the deadline for responses was extended from February 8 until February 22.
When the government became the ''responsible authority'' for the development last May, Mr Madden said construction work would begin immediately.
But since then, Cr Toby Archer said, the site had been a ''moonscape''.
''The rationale is that it's of state significance and the developer's ready to go but somehow there is a blockage at council. Well, if there's a planning blockage then why has it taken the department so long to come up with plans?'' he said.
The development process had not moved forward in any ''meaningful way'' since, and any shortcomings with the project would be directly due to this ''unilateral, non-collaborative'' call-in process, Mr Collins wrote in his letter.
The area's federal member, Labor MP Kelvin Thomson, also criticised the community consultation process. ''This is one of the biggest redevelopment proposals currently being considered in Coburg, and local residents who will have to live with it for a lifetime have only just over one month to consider and respond to it,'' he said.
''The Victorian government must respect and acknowledge the views of local residents.''
In a statement a government spokeswoman said the public had been given a ''generous opportunity'' for submissions and consultation.
''The gridlock preventing this project from proceeding has been broken and considerable progress has been made on this development,'' she said.

I think it's time to make some noise, we need to arrange something to get this issue back into the main stream news. Rally ? March ? AGM is just round the corner ?

If you want people power, just give everyone some notice so they all know about it. If you want to do a flyer drop, to let people know, there are lots of people willing to help, just ask.
