Re:SunRRA Public Meeting 6 Months, 1 Week ago
Here is an outline of the SunRRA public meeting held on Wednesday 2nd Sept, from notes.

SunVale - a letter has been drafted to the land monitor about retaining the Sunvale site for public open space.

A public meeting will be held on Wednesday Oct 26th to be attended by Bill Scales, at a venue to be announced. Watch this site for details.

A sign has appeared indicating that a business park is to be established in Cairnlea near the "wind socks" site. This land is described as "extremely contaminated" and is to be rezoned Business 3. Get ready for a major ruckus.

There was praise for the literary festival currently being held in Sunshine.

The Westlink project appears to be storming ahead in absolute secrecy - tenders have been issued. The Westlink project is part of the discredited "Eddington" plan which will see up to 1400 homes destroyed in SUnshine to build a freeway. No information has been made available by the State Government's Roads Minister Tim Pallas who hopes to push this through "under the radar" following massive community protest. BTAG will meet consultants and report back to the community.

Radioactive material has been found at Ravenhall. As reported in the press last week, consultants have been put on to do a "standard" investigation. There is no faith in the consultants or their investigative program, which looks to be set up as a whitewash. Drums are still in the ground but being ignored, testing is a sham, spent tritium is reportedly to be found. A culture of denial is already surrounding the project, as the land is earmarked for housing. Earliest dumping of contaminated material on the site stems from 1960, dumping of contaminated material ceased in 1970-1. There was a question why Wackenhutt cancelled their contract to run the women's prison, under allegations they would be reponsible for any illness or disease caused by the contamination.

SunRRA will lodge a complaint about the council's Sunvale postcard sham, complaints from other organisations have already been sent. SunRRA will draft a letter to explain that the community wants to keep the staus quo on the municipal offices.

Centenary celebrations will be held at the McKay Gardens on Sunday 29th November, 12-4pm.
