SunRRA's August podcast is now available for download.

It features a story on Labor's public land grab here in Sunshine and St Albans; Street Talk is from the Alternative Council Meeting held outside the council chambers on July 28; the monthly letter is about cash-for-access to the Labor Party and poor planning decisions from Justin Madden; and Reuben Tyers rattles the bones.

As usual, an issue not to be missed.

A day after your podcast comes the news the state government has already done "housing capacity assessments" in Brimbank. Well done guys spot on.

http://www.theage.com.au/national/suburbs-to-squeeze-in-more-houses-20090813-ejuw.html

The State Government has ordered new housing "capacity assessments" of the city's 31 municipalities. They will be followed by housing requirements for each area.

The tender documents show the Government has already conducted "pilot work" in Brimbank

It will be interesting to see hwo they have factored long term LIVEABILITY into the capacity assessments.

You know that other Brumby government policy goal - A STATE OF LIVEABILITY - which is supposed to ensure that all existing and new communities are LIVEABLE into the future and not ghettos.

http://www.vcec.vic.gov.au/CA256EAF001C7B21/0/6ABDED8EE4E5DE3FCA257372000C9834?OpenDocument

Do they think turning Sunvale over to social housing is a great idea? Without sufficient social infrastructure in the high needs area to start with?

How UNLIVEABLE would that be ???

Those doingthe capacity assessments need to factor in long term Liveability criteria that include adequacy of existing social infrastructure to cope with new additional demands.

surely a topic for an upcoming SunRRA podcast

- a lot of people reckon Sunshine is as good as it sounds - ask Nick - he wants to oput more social housing here - its that good already

Things that say 'Melbourne' (even more than a big M)

YOU know you're from Melbourne if …

- When diarising anything in September you first consult the footy fixture.

- You were shocked when you found out not all street directories are called Melway.

- When everyone knows where a bar, cafe or restaurant is you no longer want to go there.

- You know Sunshine, Rosebud and the Caribbean Gardens are not as good as they sound.

- You consider yourself a socialist yet you drive a European car and have a cleaner.

The 17th edition of the SUNSHINE MATTERS podcast for October 2009 is now out.

There is an article about SLAPP suits, some Brimbank radio talkback, and the real reason why the Brumby government won't establish an independent crime commission. Music is from rapper MKA with a track called Rocking MC from his new album Mugs Away. Essential listening as always.

Download it from http://www.sunshine.asn.au/audio/0910SunshineMatters.mp3 or go to the player page.

The SunRRA podcasts are fantastic! Can you put a link to the mp3 for all of them? There are only a few I can download this way. I'd like to download them all onto my Ipod so that can listen to them on my way to work.
