SunRRA Monographs 9 Months ago
We are really pleased to announce the launch of our new Monograph series.

The one about Ned Kelly's return is really interesting. The idea came to John Girardi when he was sitting around at a New Year's function and Simon told the story. He knew then and there that it had to be recorded for everybody to enjoy.

The Poems for Brimbank are about Bard1. Anyone familiar with SunRRA's website over the last few years would have come across these delightful poems. They have given us all much pleasure.

You can access both of these monographs from the front page article (there is a link to both of them), or you can access them via the File Repository link on the left hand side (under the Main Menu).

The monographs are great!

SunRRA has taken it to a new level. The monographs are fantastic! I loved the Ned Kelly story. I can't believe the lengths you guys had to go to in order to get a result. How hard do they want to make it for us out here? I also remember the bikini girl. What are you going to have to resort to next, super hero outfits?

I remember Bard1. He/she gave me so much pleasure. I must be one of the forunate ones to see them first right here, on this very forum when they were first posted.

Just read the 'Ned Kelly' Monograph, it moved me to tears. I remember the farce over the temporary pools for the bloody swimming, such a waste of money. This is such rich community history and it makes me loathe the craven Madden and the ALP even more. How did it ever get this bad, the ALP is truly, truly a diminished party. They should be deeply ashamed, but I doubt they are.

Local politics, ever wondered how it works?

The Sunshine Residents & Ratepayers Association Inc. (SunRRA) has, and decided to monitor and analyze the Brimbank City Council elections held on Saturday November 29th 2008. The elections commenced controversially amid an Ombudsman’s investigation into corruption at BCC.

This is the third in our series of monographs. Additional information can be found in the separate document titled Brimbank Preferences also available in this repository.

ONE hundred years on, and the H.V. McKay Memorial Gardens are again being cultivated as a sanctuary for the community.

Centennial celebrations for the gardens, originally established by Hugh Victor McKay for workers at his Sunshine Harvester Factory, will take place on Sunday.

Heritage gardening specialist and Friends of the H.V. McKay Memorial Gardens member Bill Bampton said the challenge of restoring the gardens was about reconnecting in their “contemporary context” to become the sanctuary they once were for local residents and workers.

Changing gardening techniques and weather add to that challenge.

Once a privately-run garden with four dedicated gardeners, in its heyday the grounds were green and shady with large shade trees, ornamental floral displays and well laid-out paths.

A bowling green, tennis courts, conservatory and gardener’s cottage ensured the area was always in use. And workers making their way from home to the Sunshine Harvester complex added to a constant flow of pedestrians.

Mr Bampton said Mr Mckay’s vision to beautify the area extended to the streets beyond, with plantings of large shade trees.

He welcomed Brimbank Council’s input into restoring the gardens, which has included succession tree plantings of oak, poplar and magnolia trees, restoration of the gates and entry pillars and the installation of a drip-irrigation system and refurbished lighting.

Mr Bampton said local flat-dwellers and residents should see the gardens as their own oasis and reclaim the spot for relaxing and leisure.

Sunday’s celebrations run from 12.30-4pm at the gardens in Anderson Rd, next to Chaplin Reserve, Sunshine. It will include performances from the Sunshine Community Brass Band, the Williamstown RSL Pipe band and community group The Legless Lizards.

There will also be a centenary tree-planting and historical film and image display throughout.

All are welcome.

Great to see the new signage at McKay Gardens. I'm giving it 5 days before it's graffitied. I hope i'm wrong.

The latest SunRRA monograph is titled A Failure of the Local Law. Dedicated to council officers and staff, it calls for something to finally be done about the shocking state of the Sunshine Railway station.
