I voted against them at Federal level because of that wonderful band of Labor parliamentarians-in-wanting they gave us and kept propping up for Brimbank Council. Same goes for State - only worse. When a sitting minister declares that no Labor member will be prosecuted (under local government Act) you know they will never, ever get it.

As Sunshine RSL members and community now all agree that the McKay Family bequested the Dickson St. land to the Sunshine RSL with the clear intent that it be used for the purpose of providing services to local veterans and their families it is now time for the Victorian Minister for Respect to do just that and respect the family's original wishes.

Justin Madden, DHS and DPCD have no moral or ethical rights to use the Dickson St land for social housing unless it is solely for veterans and their families.

STOP the progress of the current social housing project on this sacred land and RESPECT the McKay family.

RESPECT starts at the top and Justin Madden is an emperor with no clothes when it comes to this matter. He has shown neither the McKay family or the Sunshine community any RESPECT on this matter.

The Sunshine RSL Committee needs to find $4M fo a new clubrooms another way and RESPECT the wishes of the McKay family otherwise they will be roundly condemned in theor own community forever.

The Sunshine RSL community also needs to show the local community some LEADERSHIP on the RESPECT issue and practice what it preaches. how is the younger generation ever going to develop RESPECT if those who are supposed to be leading it show none??

Dont stuff around with all this.

there is NO RESPECT for the Sunshine community going to come from Madden or the RSL.

Put a Community Picket in place to stop the project and show the rest of Victoria just how bad the McKay family and Sunshine community has been treated by Madden and the RSL in their chase of a few pieces of silver.

All compromise is based on give and take, but there can be no give and take on fundamentals. Any compromise on mere fundamentals is a surrender. For it is all give and no take.

Geelong Advertiser. Housing authority VicUrban has revealed its plan for a Moorabool Street social housing development to allay concerns it will become an overcrowded ghetto.

$25 million social housing development outrages South Geeong residents

Christie Peucker

January 27th, 2010

A $26 MILLION social housing development will appear on the doorstep of South Geelong residents by December, but none of them knew a thing about it.

Neighbouring residents were outraged yesterday as word filtered out that an 81-unit social housing project was about to begin construction, courtesy of a planning permit issued by State Planning Minister Justin Madden in November.

Geelong Advertiser. Resident of Newtown social housing development says mass projects like this one should be banned in Geelong.

Breaking News

A $26M social housing development in Geelong has been suspended by the Premier John Brumby despite a planning permit being issued by Justin Madden in November without anyone knowing.

Marginal seat syndrome no doubt just like in Nth Melbourne.

Sunshine is next. Brumby will have to be Respectful of fairness principles wont he??

Surely he will have the Sunshine RSL project suspended because all the same issues surround it - cost ineffective, negative social impact, unsustainable model, lack of community say, etc

We all live in a Fair Victoria dont we ???.

If only. Not much largesse left to give after they cave to marginals.

I wouldn't get my hopes up to high for Sunshine, after all, stealing land 'donated to the people' for a specific purpose, like supporting RSL members, or Errington reserve, is par for the course for a Labor party that needs to use federal money at any cost.

Of course, the first sod turnings and openings of these projects won't afford the pollies much joy as all will have protesters there!

Wouldn't it be good if I were wrong, though. Trees saved.

Re:Sunshine RSL News 1 Month ago
Would anyone object of the Sunshine RSL Committee / Anzac House / Brumby & Rudd governments did the following:

1. used the land bequested by the McKay family for the purpose it was intended i.e. for veterans and their families

2. complied with Brimbank Council's planning codes / Rescode and built a "legal" number of units to the required standards

3. provided social housing options on the Dickson St site to local veterans and their families only

I think everyone would be happy with that.

And the Sunshine RSL might just have a future in a community that is fast wiping it for its unprincipled and greed driven actions so far.

seems like a good compromise, but there would have to be written assurances that these conditions would be met, and not changed later on.

Sounds like an excellent compromise, but isn't everything already a done deal? Whatever happens, I still refuse to ever give them my business- greedy, greedy, greedy.
