The food is brilliant at the Mehak(?) Punjabi restaurant on City Place - really cheap and tasty. Atmosphere isn't great for sit-down tho'.
Other favourite places: the Kororoit Creek Trail

The "Beer Barn" when it first opened was classic. It was in the same shop where D'Aquario is now on Monash Street.
On entering the small shop with the huge letters "Beer Barn" emblazoned out front one could not help but admire the authentic 1950s fridge on the right hand side in the middle of the room.
It was in immaculate condition and took one back 50 years instantly. It reminded me of a circa 1950 chevrolet with similar mix of angular design, curves and stainless steel.
The interior of this ice cold fridge was brightly lit and enticing to the eye.
Upon glancing into this low riding oblong fridge the beer drinker was presented with an amazing spectacle:
all shelves, row after row, stacked full and deep exclusively with ice cold VB cans!
Unfortunately the beer barn didn't really take off and they must have sold this amazing fridge to keep afloat after about a month.

The New Delhi Indian restaurant is not only the worst Indian restuarant, but the worst restaurant I have ever been to. Service is OK, but the food was so disappointing, not even remotely Indian.
New Delhi has gone down hill bad. It used to have very good food, but the last few times I have been there it was ordinary. It used to be the place to go to for really good Indian food in the west. I knew a couple that travelled 20km to come to New Delhi on a regular basis. Unfortunately for Sunshine, now the best place for Indian in the west has to be Aangan on Barkly Street in West Footscray. This restaurant is going from strength to strength.
The food at Aangan is superb and the prices are reasonable. They are going gang busters and recently took over the shop next door, expanded and renovated. It now looks like an upmarket restaurant, but the prices haven't changed. They have expanded their menu as well and if anything I think the food has got better since the renovation - I know people were nervous that they would improve the surroundings and the food would decline and become more expensive, but it hasn't.
They also have a kitsch beer garden out the back, with fake grass, which is fun. Yes, Aangan is one of the best resaurants in the west and it has to be the best Indian restaurant in the west. New Delhi should take notice of what they are doing.

Right now the best restaurant in Sunshine is undoubtedly the Gold Leaf restaurant on the corner of Ballarat Road and Hampshire Road. I was there for Yum Cha yesterday and it was packed with people, on a Monday (admittedly the day before Cup Day) - but it always is. For a very large restaurant, there was only my table and one other table that were non-asian, so it is obviously a favourite for the Chinese.
It's a little bit expensive, especially if you're a big eater like me. It cost me $45 yesterday for lunch and with a beer, but I was quite full. It has cost me more in the past when I've made a right pig of myself.
The food is great, very fresh, and if you stick to the steamed food, and have some asian greens with your meal, it's quite healthy.
One of the things I love about Yum Cha is that you can start eating from as soon as you sit down. There's no delaying of gratification here, you can hoe right in from the get go. No waiting for orders to be taken and food to be cooked. You just point out what you want to the waitresses that come around with trolleys of food.
You can't get Yum Cha for dinner, but their dinner menu is also fantastic.
No question about it, this is the best restaurant in Sunshine. It would be a winner anywhere, including Chinatown if it was located there.

RE Aangan, the banquet isn't on the new glossy menus... when asked..it was presented on a piece of paper at $28.
and no complementy wine on phone bookings
anyway... sexyland/westend/bunnings are still my fav place in sunshine!

Apparently RSL Victoria has another 2 schemes in the pipeline on their Melbourne sites.
Time to hand back the membership is they are going to fuck up communities that have supported them for years. Why didnt the RSL have the decency to consult with us about their short sighted money grabbing deals with the developers and Madden and Wynne??.

the sunshine rsl was a community club but after this outrageous underhand attempt to sneak through an overdevelopment of social housing it isnt the broad community's club anymore. it has lost our trust. weak as piss. the community expects the rsl would be upfront and honest about its intentions.
