What good is stopping and warning people . I say get down to the creek in Duke Street some time where groups of young are meeting and drinking then
being abusive when they leave. urinating in the street , swearing , fighting ect. The community around this area are scared and their reports to police come back with the same answer we can't do anything about it not enough
police or cars to do patrols. Does someone have to be murdered or badly injured before this is a priority. Residents are scared maybe someone can go down and explain that to them.

Can you believe that the cops told me that they don't book the drinkers
Because they are the type of people who don't pay the fines.
Well lets all stop paying traffic fines so that they will stop booking us

Nothing has been done before so don't hold your breath now Charlie is working in Footscray the truth is there are limited resouces and police on the street. I am sick of the talk and bashings . I'm also scared to do the things I always have taken for granted . I am sick of the older community being scared and threatened.

Is it me or is violent crime on Sunshine Streets on the rise?

Every week I see the crime reports in the local papers and I start to feel uneasy but then I forget about it and think that will never happen to me or my family.

Its only when you collate all the reports you start to see how close to our homes and families these attacks are taking place. Yes this could happen to me or someone I care about.

If we keep this record going will we see a pattern in the reports such as reoccuring locations, times of the day/night or even certain days of the week - when the risk of being a victim is increased?

Compiling this list I have already noticed Sunday night is not a good night to be on Sunshine streets.

Sunrra will continue to monitor personal robberies and attacks in the Sunshine area and keep a collective record of the reports.

By highlighting this growing threat in our community I can only hope police resources will be deployed and we see the growth of this list slow or stall completely.

Sunshine Crime Stats.

“A bloody gang bashing at a Sunshine supermarket has left one man fighting for his life and has sparked demands for the immediate installation off CCT cameras and extra police patrols.” The Advocate

A number of press reports this week indicate that the street violence is getting worse, not better. You get the feeling that the real battle here is about public relations, there does not appear to be much happening to combat the crime.

A shocking attack at Sunshine railway station is only the last of many, a continuing story where nothing is done.

Both the Age and the Herald Sun carry the story with images and video.
http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,21985,25105313-2862,00.html

GRAPHIC footage of a youth's brutal bashing at Sunshine train station shows three attackers taking turns to aim football-force kicks to his head.
http://www.theage.com.au/national/appalling-attack-on-train-passenger-20090225-8hm7.html

A young man was left unconscious after he was repeatedly kicked in the head during a sickening attack by three men at a railway station in Melbourne's western suburbs yesterday.

The Advocate this week carries a front page story (Mean Streets 24.2.09 p.1) that police have broadened their warnings to people who use the streets at night.

"A violent brawl at St Albans Station, which closed the Sydenham Line for half an hour on Friday, was the latest in a string of incidents that have police on edge.

"I saw people crying, yelling and punching each other on the platform and in the train, and unfortunately this is a regular sight... It's not safe at all. Without dramatising, it has worsened."

Page 2 of the Advocate carries another story of daylight robbery in a St Albans supermarket car park, as the victim was getting into the car. "One of the men produced a knife and the other a taser gun and made demands for cash".

The Brimbank Leader reports other assaults this week (24.2.09 p.3)

"a violent assault on a 17 year old woman (sic) in Keilor following the running of the Keilor Gift about 9pm last Saturday night. The woman was hospitalised as a result of the attack."

Another story on the same page "A group of three females and up to five males approached two 15 year old boys in the western side of Skinner reserve... Some members of the group attacked the boys and stole a wallet and mobile phone."

Meanwhile Les Twentyman is asked in his column on page 11 "But arent crime rates down? (referring to police press releases)"

"We can't continue to have this spin doctoring from the police that the crime rate is down. Maybe pinching choo choo bars out of the shops is down, but people being attacked with machetes, shot and murdered is not down. And that's what people are really frightened of."

Rumour has it the Rebels who are located in West Sunshine - have decided to join the 'new operation'.

The Rebels are going to reclaim the sunshine streets.

They are sick of the police not able to look after their turf. So they will do it themselves.

GO REBELS = SAVE US BECAUSE THE POLICE CAN'T!

If you read the Advocate this week you will see on page 1 (3.3.09)

"Brimbank's inspector Scott Mahoney said January and February had been the worst months for robberies and assaults at Brimbank's railway stations, but he was not prepared to release the number of incidents.

This comes just a week after he was telling us that crime is not as bad as we think and it's really just sensationalism in certain newspapers.

Outrageous, this blatant spin and public relations bullshit. We need the truth.

What kind of country are we living in?

When the government, police and authorities ACTIVELY suppress 'information' and facts from the people.

What fascist regime are we living under?

Of course they are talking about Brimbank..

http://www.theage.com.au/national/doubt-over-true-extent-of-crime

OFFICIAL police records are under-reporting some crimes - including assaults - with the public distrustful that the records reveal the true extent of crime in Victoria.

The report, tabled in parliament yesterday, also found:

- Police have antiquated, ad hoc administrative practices for recording crime.

- In many instances requests for police assistance made through 000 calls did not lead to reported crimes being recorded in the LEAP crime data base.

- Core general duties at a number of police stations appeared to have been relegated to a lower priority.

- Police are not sufficiently trained to accurately record crime.

The Ombudsman, George Brouwer, found an internal police audit matching 000 calls and LEAP data had found "crime statistics were understated, particularly in relation to assaults".

The Brimbank Leader this week reports on the growing crime rate in the area (10.3.09)

At 5.30pm on Sunday afternoon a young father was bashed by up to five men of islander appearance while his wife an two children looked on. (p3)

Police are seeking witnesses to two deliberately lit car fires in Windsor Blvd Ardeer between 2 and 2.30 am on Friday March 6. A ford Falcon was destroyed in one of the fires. (p15)

A man, described as being in his early 20s, threatened a 31 year old female with a 10cm kitchen knife in a laneway between the Watergardens carpark and railway station at 9.55am on Monday February 9. (p15)

Meanwhile the Age reports these words of comfort from our very own Premier John Brumby:
http://www.theage.com.au/national/doubt-over-true-extent-of-crime

"In Parliament, Premier John Brumby said Victoria remained the safest state in Australia."
