THIS APPEAL IS FROM KILMORE, ANYONE ABLE TO HELP?
Its Shelley Banks from Kilmore. We have been devestated by the fires and the animals also. Our local Vet clinics are in dire need of animal fodder i.e. dog, cat, horse etc. If you can manage to get your hands on any please get it to the Whittesea Vet Clinic or the Wallan Multipurpose Centre.
I am going down there now to see what else they need.
Shell.

Dear Everyone
All sorts of requests. We all feel the need to help and we feel so helpless.
This idea from Marie-Louise on the Peninsula is a great one and I pass it on.
Urging our local councils to help, with money, goods, manpower and arranging respite for those people who have lost their homes or who cant get back to see if their homes still exist.
I called my Mayor, Boroondara, and they are getting under way with a big relief programme, working with one of the stricken areas and offering them all the help possible, the sorts of things mentioned above.
In fact my Mayor's son is helping out in one of the disaster areas working through the ruins to find those who did not escape.
This disaster is something that is effecting us all
and so we are suggesting a number of ways to help in a practical way, if all else fails there is always money.
Mary

Rumour has it - Victorian police were told to expect tempetures closer to 50 last Saturday but the government weren't releasing this information so as not to panick victorians.
Ask around - this is what a wife of a copper said - her husband was warned to expect.

AN early bushfire warning system that may have saved lives has been shelved while authorities argue about who should pay for it.
Former superintendent Murray Adams, who was State Emergency Response Officer until 2005, said he could not believe the system had not been introduced.
"I don't want to blame anyone in particular or get into a slanging match, but I cannot believe nothing has been done," Mr Adams said.
People living in fire areas said yesterday they had inadequate information to make a decision about whether to fight or flee the fires.

I knew it was serious as soon as Brumby laid on the water works on telly the other night. He showed all of Victoria and all of Australia how much he cared for the bushfire victims in that important action, which was well captured by the cameras. Many journos also reported on it.

There must be real trouble brewing if the goons are already out defending the indefensible.
As confucious say, "spin doctor working overtime is sure sign of coming earthquake".

Spin Dr's my backside.
I am appalled at how quickly people have jumped on the blame-game bandwagon.
You make me sick

Not every contrary opinion is a spin doctor a stooge at work
We don't know if fires were deliberately lit or re-lit and don't even know how many people have lost their lives.
Personally I agree that it is too early to point the finger of blame with fires still burning, but that's just MHO

Told you so.
http://www.theage.com.au/national/huge-fire-class-action-launched-20090214-87pg.html
THE Brumby Government and a private electricity company face one of the largest class actions in Victorian history over last weekend's devastating firestorm.
The Phoenix taskforce is examining a two-kilometre stretch of power line in Kilmore East that snapped during strong winds and record heat about 11am last Saturday. Within minutes a nearby pine forest was ablaze. Within six hours the fire had destroyed nearly every building in the towns in its path.
On Thursday, police removed a length of the fallen power line and a pole as evidence.

Predicted here first - again.
Next state government to go into damage control - to defend accusations of public liability for the degree of devastion and loss of life - more legal action directed soley at the state government pending.

Talk about shooting the messenger. "hate mongers" needs to take a good hard look at herself, and try to figure out where she's going wrong.

Nice to see that you are posting with compassion about lost lives and not partaking in political point-scoring.

I for one have nothing but compassion for those who suffer through the fires, but I must admit there is something disturbing about the way it is presented in the media.
There is certainly a political side to the way it is managed, and it does make me sick.

I agree! Why am I being vilified for asking questions?
All we are doing is asking questions. We shouldn't feel intimated by persons accusing us of alterior motives when all we are doing is questioning.
That is or democratic right. That is democracy. To question the status quo. To question the political spin.
Don't give me the 'higher than thou' treatment.
I have as much compassion for all those that have suffered and been affected if not more = and the proof is I am questioning the reasons, the answers, the excuses - because I care.
No one has gone untouched in this incident - and everyone I have spoken to is affected - doing something and giving whatever they can.
But that does not preclude us the caring community of Melbourne asking the hard questions like what went wrong, why did this have to happen, how can we make sure this doesn't happen again, and how come the State was not prepared for a disaster of such proportion considering we have been on terrorist alert since 2001 (eight years). Surely we should have had a surplus of morphine and bandages accumulated - rather than have to rely on 3aw to put out calls for private businesses to supply these items - as a donation.
The state government is a joke and if you rely on them to save you or alert you or supply you in your time of need - think again!
I'm going to ask the hard questions of our governmenbt and hold them accountable.
I'm also going to lay blame where it lands.
I'm not impressed the Liberal's Jeff Kennett government reduced publice liability for privatised utlities to 100 million when as we have found out the damage these private companies can cause our community is in the multi millions if not billions!
