This is how they run the state of Victoria nowadays. "PPP's" for every merchant banker and his dog while people continue to be killed on the trains.

Where's the plot?
http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,21985,24327935-661,00.html

PUBLIC transport users in Victoria are more likely to be attacked than commuters in New York, London or Sydney.

Assaults, sex offences, robberies and thefts soared last year, police figures show.

While public transport crime was up 2.5 per cent, transit police insiders say squad numbers have dropped to a new low of less than 200.

WHEN I started school at Sunshine East Primary in the early 1950s, Mum and Dad always knew I was safe there.

It's not like that any more.

Well, tell that to the 16 year-old student at a western suburbs school who was taken to hospital a few weeks ago with a severe head wound.

He was attacked by a 15 year-old former student of the school with a machete.

Add to that the incidents of the schoolyard machete attack, a stabbing and two shootings, and is it any wonder local police are extremely concerned.

In the Brimbank area there is a shortage of 89 police personnel, according to official statistics released by the National Institute of Economic & Industry Research.

The Victorian Government is preventing adults smoking in cars when there are children present. Fine.

But isn't the kids' physical safety at school equally important?

We went to a playground (the play equipment quite good but could do with some other things i.e table and chairs or something else to encourage families) and this twit who I summise was as high as a kite was riding a bloody trail bike full tilt up and down the green park area!!!
There were neighbourhood kids nearby, there were kids on the play equipment, there were people riding bikes and walking dogs on the nearby park, and this idiot was hooning around on a trail bike!!
Personally I would much rather have seen a line of chain smoking parents lighting up a safe distance from their kids on the swings than that inconsiderate idiot!
I saw about 3 police cars tooling up and down Ballarat Rd not doing very much - you would have thought a few detours into a few residential streets would have made a welcome diversion and you never know they might have actually done something about the trail bike hoon!
I am suspicious of the perennial law and order debate, but it seems obvious to me that if the police got involved in a bit of less than glamourous community policing it might do wonders for the perception of the work they do in our community.

I know council has its much hyped 'hoon line' but are they liaising with the police about this sort of community safety issue. I know it may not be a big deal, I was really shocked and offended that in a playground by a nearby walking track that the members of the community were actually using some scumbag was putting people at risk!

Police numbers 'dangerously low', says union

BY RUZA ZIVKUSIC
The Advocate

BRIMBANK police are calling on the community to sign a petition calling for more resources amid claims the area needs at least 89 additional members.

The Police Association claims there are fewer police at Keilor Downs today than 16 years ago - down from 44 constables and senior constables to 29.

Shortfalls are caused by temporary transfers to non-operational positions and long-term absences, some connected to WorkCover claims.

The association claims Sunshine should have 67 constables and senior constables but is down to 40.

SunRRA's next project will be to look at the unsolved crime statistics in Brimbank and compare them to areas where they have a full complement of police, instead of just a skeleton crew like in Brimbank.

Wait for it.

Even less police available locally as the government decides to push more into the CBD. The right of people to drink themselves stupid in the city is more important than the lives of bashing victims in Sunshine.
http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,21985,24438372-661,00.html

SENIOR police have backed a radical street-side safety zone that contains triage, custody and sobering facilities to help curb drunken violence in the city.

The plan, along with a proposal to use officers from suburban areas to form special taskforce units to help control the CBD, comes as senior police and city leaders meet today for a special safety summit.

While applauding a pro-active approach, the Police Association is angered by the plan to use police from other areas to help patrol the CBD.

----

Of course the arguments all apply to Sunshine, but nobody gives a f*ck. Saturday is now classified as a "major event". can U believe?

---

"It doesn't matter how drunk a person might be, they're not going to throw a punch at someone if there's two uniformed coppers six feet away," he said.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman last night said it was common to recruit suburban police for major events.

The Cavalry has arrived.

Detective Senior Sergeant Charlie Bezzina a veteran homicide detective is heading to CIU at Keilor Downs.

This is fantastic news for our community.

Charlie has a fantastic history of community work and dedication to the citizens of Melbourne and now Brimbank residents will receive the benefit of his expertise and experience.

Charlie is also a local resident and well known to many Sunshine residents.

SunRRA welcomes Charlie's appointment and looks forward to the good work we know will come of it.

If we area 89 police short of a full complement - a skeleton staff really as someone said - why all the fuss about one policeman?

Are they sending a single homicide detective to Brimbank because we now have the highest homicide rate in Victoria?

Where are the other 88? It's not like we are asking for more than we are due.

I'll take anything we can get.

Crime and drugs in the West is out of control even though our local coppers are doing the best they can.

The crims know how short the area is on police resources their making hay while they can. Which at this rate will be for a long time unless the police resource problems in the West are addressed.

After attending a SUNRRA meeting last Wednesday night we were unable to get into our garage because of a drug deal that was happening in the Drive way. Believe me not a very nice experience and the low life that were in the car made us hesitant to ask them to move. What next?????

It won't matter who is in charge. There are still budgets and the force is stuffed thanks to Bracks Brumby & Nixon. They don't care about the west so lets be realistic we need more resources out here. We have such bad representation from our local members not much will happen until resources are increased.

Could this be the reason Brimbank has an understaffed police contingent? Are bikies' parties more important than children being bashed and attacked with weapons at school? Police can't get to a machete attack on a birthday party in less than 45 minutes, but when the bikies come to town a full protection service is provided.
http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,21985,24473097-661,00.html

POLICE are angry they will be made to provide a VIP escort for a motorcycle gang set to swamp Melbourne's CBD this weekend.

More than 200 members of the Bandidos bikie gang will descend on the city this afternoon in a bold show of defiance.

Police have been told to "facilitate" the bikies as they ride in convoy from Geelong to the CBD.

The Bandidos will be given a police escort and traffic will be stopped so they can enjoy an uninterrupted run.

Once in town, they are expected to hit pubs and strip clubs during their annual national run.

"It really is a party," said one Bandidos member.

Now police are escorting criminals to make sure they get to their strip shows safely and on time. Premier John thinks this is a great use of police resources.
http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,21985,24478015-661,00.html

THE Bandidos bikie gang will visit their Sunshine clubhouse tonight for a strip show and heavy boozing after their blazing run into Melbourne's CBD yesterday.

Sen-Sgt Davies said heat in other states was pushing the bikie menace into Victoria.

"SA has enacted legislation that curtailed the activity of this group and other jurisdictions have enacted similar legislation," he said.

"They've got a long history of violent and criminal behaviour.

Premier John Brumby defended the police escort.
