John Brumby must think we are stupid, really stupid. We are not. Well, not all of us.
The latest doozy he served up was declaring a 12 per cent swing against Labor in the Altona byelection at the weekend a ''fantastic'' result. Yep, any more victories like that and they are doomed.
Within 24 hours someone must have pointed out to the premier that this was a very stupid thing to say. And also that it showed he wasn't listening to the electorate - so yesterday he did an immediate about-face and declared that yes, he heard the message from the voters, particularly in relation to trains and street violence.
................ When you have been in government as long as this one, no lie sounds so stupid that it can't be told. The internal bullshit detector fails and fails utterly.

Everyone now has "aroused" bullshit detectors when Brumby speaks.
They dont listen to the content anymore but just focus on identifing the bullshit.
No-one's listening to the crap which is about bloody time!!!
I like these excerpts from the same story:
During the Altona campaign Brumby said that the seat would be difficult to win. It was held by Labor by a margin of 20 per cent. It has been held by Labor since the day of its inception. It's one of the safest seats in the country. Sure, it's standard practice to say something is difficult to win - it's also rubbish. You can talk rubbish and get away with it for only so long. When the speaker believes it and no one else does, you are in big trouble - and that's where Labor is now.
It's an affliction that inevitably settles on any long-term government: it starts to believe its own bullshit. Precisely at the time when no one else does.
This government is so far inside its own bubble it can no longer see - or hear - itself. Like the announcement of Roads Minister Tim Pallas recently that the lights that will illuminate the West Gate Bridge will make it a better bridge than the one that spans a body of water called Sydney Harbour. I mean, really.
And this one
Last up, crime. Two types of crime have been in the media spotlight lately - drunken young men bashing each other in the CBD, and violence against Indians. Of these, Brumby denies that one is happening. He maintains Indians are actually under-represented in assaults - but won't release the supporting statistics.
So last week Baillieu bought into the topic, saying Brumby was in denial, that Victoria was not racist, but there was a problem. The Labor hounds had been waiting to pounce - and next day the ministers lined up to say that Baillieu said we were all racists. That he said mums and dads were racists. He didn't of course. We all know that. And I suspect people were sick of the slur tactic too. But Labor is treating the voters like morons. Only it's not the voters who are morons.

Here it is, straight from the horse's mouth, or that is to say, the the Brumby spin department.
http://www.theage.com.au/opinion/society-and-culture/victoria-wont-tolerate-attacks-on-indians-20100220-omvt.html
As a father, having had a child living and studying overseas, I know what it is like to worry about your child. Are they safe? Are they happy? I also understand those parents place their trust in the jurisdiction their child has chosen to live in to do all it can to look after the welfare of their child.
We have worked hard to bring down the crime rate, and Victoria is Australia's safest state.

http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/children-bring-home-probrumby-propaganda-20100224-p3n6.html
PREMIER John Brumby has been accused of using government schools to distribute taxpayer-funded political propaganda, after a Melbourne primary school gave students a glossy government brochure to take home.
It features a photograph of Mr Brumby with local Labor MP Janice Munt, who faces a battle to retain her marginal seat of Mordialloc in November.
"John Brumby had now stooped to using children in government schools to bring home political advertising," said opposition scrutiny-of-government spokesman David Davis.

http://www.theaustralian.com.au/politics/man-of-inaction-frustrates-electorate/story-e6frgczf-1225835356762
not only are Victorians fed up with the state's problems, they are equally frustrated with how the Premier is dealing with them. One of the main criticisms aimed at Brumby is that he never admits there is a problem and takes far too long to respond to issues.
As the unelected Premier who replaced Steve Bracks, the only experience Brumby has had as a leader in an election campaign is when he led Labor, then in opposition, to defeat in 1996.

That just about sums up this Brumby government.
http://www.theage.com.au/technology/states-computers-put-a-40m-byte-on-tax-dollar-20100302-pgff.html
THE Brumby government's poor management of the state's computers is wasting tens of millions of taxpayer dollars each year and causing greenhouse gases to be spewed out unnecessarily, according to its own technology experts.
A confidential report leaked to The Age warns that the many separate public service IT systems waste up to $40 million a year, producing "high levels of unnecessary duplication, complexity and cost … and the true cost … is not understood or managed".
It blames successive Labor administrations for being "slow to address the opportunities available" and details similar moves outlined by consultant reports in 2003 and 2005.

Remember, John Brumby is listening now.
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/state-fails-on-trains-power-water/story-e6frf7jo-1225836714703
VICTORIA'S train system has been branded a dunce, scoring a D grade.
Despite the State Government's multitude of transport plans, the scathing report card from Engineers Australia said the train, water and electricity systems have been going backwards in the past five years.
Opposition Leader Ted Baillieu said this showed things were getting worse, not better.

Its all about to hit the fan when the Upper House inquiry gets hold of Media Plans for the past few years
http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/madden-media-plan-shows-the-inner-workings-of-spin-20100306-ppts.html
Madden media plan shows the inner workings of spin
March 7, 2010
ON FRIDAY afternoon, the ABC did Victorians a favour and posted the now infamous Justin Madden media plan on its website. Reading it is like pulling back a curtain and peering into the heart of the Brumby government spin machine.
The document - accidentally emailed to the ABC by Madden's media adviser, Peta Duke - was controversial because it floated the idea of a sham public consultation over the redevelopment of the Windsor Hotel. But it is more than a few snippets of strategy.
The government yesterday repeated that the plan was an ''internal speculative working document'' and refused to answer further questions. But, as the opposition pointed out, there is little that is speculative about the eight pages. The plan is actually considered, detailed, strategic and well-informed. Duke, who was blamed for coming up with the strategy to scuttle the Windsor development and has now been moved from the media unit, was actually very good at her job.
These media plans are not unusual in the government's media unit, which is run out of the Premier's office. Duke was doing what she normally does and sent her work plan to her bosses George Svigos and Sarah Dolan and the Premier's media adviser, Fiona Macrae. What is unusual is the public being able to read it.
So what does it tell us about the Brumby government? First, the level of media engagement is extensive. This is not unfamiliar territory for journalists, but among the Brumby government media tools are ''drops'', or exclusive policy announcements (in this case about sea level rise and planned for The Age). There are ''get to know you'' chats with local media. There is also media training booked for the Planning Minister, even though he has been in Parliament for a decade.

Brumby is a running joke now. He's a clown.
http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/melbournes-trains-from-bad-to-worse-20100310-pz9m.html
PREMIER John Brumby has hit out at Melbourne's new suburban train operator, Metro, saying it must lift its game after one of the worst months in years for late-running services.
The results come just three months after Metro took over the system, having been hand-picked by the government at a cost to taxpayers of tens of millions of dollars in consultants' fees and tendering costs.
RMIT academic Paul Mees, a critic of the privatised public transport system, said the Premier's reaction to the performance results was an insult to public transport users.
"He designed the system, he stuck with privatisation when it clearly wasn't working, he chose Metro - and he told us that it would fix the problems. To paraphrase Bill Clinton, 'It's the system, stupid'."

Now I thought Brumby was slapping Metro down for having the audacity to allow the evil press to get a hold of that tender document highlighting dangerous neglect of the rail system, just days after that engineers report graded public transport in Victoria as a D. It's an election year!! But Brumby should realise that people have already tuned out politicians as 'voices of authority', if anything, they are branded habitual self-seeking liars.
Let's face it, the truth is, and most Victorians know it, the system is really stuffed through nearly a CENTURY of neglect and, let's face it, the Liberals were in power for most of that time. In my 50+ years, I have seen the Tullamarine, Monash (semi freeway and freeway version), Westgate bridge, Westgate, Eastlink, Citylink, Domain tunnels, Western Ring Road, Hume, Princes, Western and Calder freeways built. I'm sure I've missed a few.
In terms of train investment, the Kennett Liberals stopped train services to rural Victoria and sold of rail easements and stations - only the viable privatised Warrnambool line escaped; as to the electrified system it has been extended by two stops to Sydenham, a few stops to Pakenham and Cranbourne and a stop to Craigieburn. Oh yes, and we tarted up Flinders St by adding slippery ramp surfaces AND taking away hand rails to make room for advertising signs. If nothing else, this demonstrates successive governments' priority.
And this government claims that with good planning it can provide the infrastructure for a population of 8 million.

How best to stuff it up? Ask Bimbo Brumby.
http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/brumby-plan-to-tackle-skills-shortage-backfires-20100323-qu3e.html
PREMIER John Brumby's grand plan to combat the skills crisis by getting more people to obtain higher TAFE qualifications has been dealt a blow, with several institutes reporting a slump in enrolments and some students not applying because of higher government fees.
The Age believes Northern Melbourne Institute of TAFE has reported a 35 per cent fall in students enrolling for diplomas and advance diplomas this year compared with last year.
William Angliss Institute of TAFE has had about 45 per cent fewer enrolments in advance diplomas and diplomas; Box Hill Institute has had 17 per cent fewer; and one regional TAFE has seen a drop of more than 60 per cent.
Under the new fee structure, the cost of an advance diploma or diploma rose from $877 in 2008 to $2000 this year, and will rise to $2500 in 2012.

http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/brumbys-water-plan-savaged-20100327-r4dh.html
JOHN Brumby's multibillion-dollar plan to save water in northern Victoria and boost Melbourne's supply has been rubbished by Australia's top economists and water experts.
They say that the project is based on "spurious" claims and will result in the waste of hundreds of millions of taxpayers' money.
The business case for stage two is now before the federal government, which is assessing the taxpayer value of the project. It is due to make a decision soon. The source, who declined to be named, described the project as a "scandalous waste of billions of dollars".
