Aircraft Noise....In Kealba!? 1 Year, 2 Months ago
G'day,

Dont know if you noticed but tonight around Friday Night 12:20 am July 4th I heard 2 low flying planes fly close and low near Kealba. Anyone else hear them?

Well mate i live in nearby St Albans and I can tell you now and again when planes take off there is a fair bit of noise, but it doesnt really bother me much since i've lived in the area for years and just gotten used to it in a way. Cheers.

Cheers. Lots of people say that. The problem is that many people don't realise that the constant noise is hurting them. Every study on people living near airports shows the noise has a major impact, and by and large, most of the people raised near airports don't consider it an issue. That kind of acceptance is why it's hard to get people motivated to pressure airplane manufacturers to make quieter planes and do the studies of noise ratings for takeoffs and extended descents(currently used) over the old descend from a cruising altitude. Remember, for the vast majority of people outside the airport industry, the only advantage of having airplanes overfly you is cheaper housing!!

I understand that. Fair point mate, but as I too have noticed the latest Airbus A380 and 787 DreamLiner Boeing airplanes are 50% quieter during both take off and landing. Once these planes become more mainstream in the industry, I can assure you the noise should not be as much of a problem as is currently with existing plane models.

Airbus and Dreamliner are both rated better than previous planes, and I suppose that's an improvement of sorts - a first step, if you like. I had an A380 pointed out to me as it traversed the Duke/Northumberland flightpath and I can't recall feeling amazed by the quiet. Certainly a different frequency with a flatter noise but still, unmistakably a plane protesting at the physics of landing.

I was interest in the Airservices quarterly report which explains why Sunshine is so aggrieved (without actually mentioning it!). Not only do the planes fly over us protesting at being forced to land, but they encircle us for the entire descent. Have a look at the most frequently used flightpaths and realise that for all the time that huge number of planes is within sight, they're also bombarding us with low frequency rumble. I don't love the airport, especially since it expanded its reach to Sunshine.
