The meeting is today (Feb 11) at 5.30 at the Riverview Convention Centre in Footscray (Melway 2S G3).
Why not attend and you can help decide which of your neighbours' houses will be demolished.

300 houses set to go, instead of the original 1000.
You can still go to the meeting tomorrow and help decide whose houses will be demolished.

Not one single home will go in WEST SUNSHINE stop scaring the residents. stop the politics. You're a very brave bureaucrat to make this assertion. Not even a pollie would be so dumb. History is littered with credible people making assurances that simply could not be delivered in the end. Depending on where the traffic will join the Ring Rd, houses may still be at risk.
The only way to avoid ANY housing in West Sunshine from being demolished is to avoid the Sunshine Rd option completely in favour of an upgrade to Somerville Rd from Geelong Rd in West Footscray - which just transfers the fear to West Footscray. At the other end this alignment feeds into an existing on/off ramp onto the Ring Road which means only industrial zones and the tip will have land resumed.
What seems to be on the cards is a hybrid alignment that stuffs up Sunshine Rd at West Footscray Station and then veers down Paramount Rd (presumably to avoid conflict with recently constructed goods train bridges near Market Rd) to connect with Somerville Rd puts even more houses at risk.
Unless and until you have a final, ticked off alignment to present to people, we're scared. And cannot welcome the decade of noise, and misery we will have to endure until it is finished and then someone comes up with yet another bright idea for a freeway through another bit of our suburb or widen this one!

http://www.theage.com.au/opinion/politics/projects-built-at-expense-of-community-20100214-nzdn.html
On the other side of Melbourne, the government wants to fast-track Westlink, a road tunnel linking the Port of Melbourne with West Footscray and, ultimately, the Western Ring Road in Sunshine West. As usual, the further incremental transformation of Melbourne into a junior version of Los Angeles is being undertaken without a proper cost-benefit analysis to see whether there are cheaper, better public transport alternatives or a public environmental impact study. They aren't even on the radar.
And why should they be? Last October the Parliament passed the Orwellian Major Projects Facilitation Bill. The president of Protectors of Public Lands Victoria, Brian Walters, SC, said the legislation was designed to bulldoze freeways through residents' rights.
Once a project is "declared", it can be sped up and the community will have no rights of objection.
The Brumby government appears most sleazy when it attempts to justify the handover of public land that morally belongs to the most disadvantaged groups in the community.
