Mckay Gardens 4 Years, 11 Months ago
When walking through the McKay Gardens in Sunshine the other day, I couldn't help thinking they must have been very grand in their original state. But they are in a fairly poor state now. (Leaving aside the garbage and so on) the gardens themselves are in need of serious work.
I noticed a number of trees have died or are very sick, some trees are missing - presumably died and were not replaced, the bed plantings look very tied and need weeding, and so on. I'm not a horticulturalist myself but maybe someone out there is. I'd be very interested to know if anyone has any information on the original design of the gardens.

I'd be very interested to know who in the council has actual responsibility for the maintainence of the garden. Obviously the council as a whole has ultimately responsiblity but I would be interested in getting some precise information about the gardens. Also if any one has any information about the design of the gardens - including what sort plants were in the original I would be very happy to hear about it.

The McKay gardens are one of the few heritage listed botanical gardens in Australia. In its heyday the horticulturalists there actually named some flower species.

What Brimbank Council's neglect is doing to Sunshine and its heritage is just this side of criminal

There is nothing wrong with the gardens, I asked Telmo and he told me they were fine. Besides they are not near any Greek houses so why does it matter.
