Here's what Dickie Wynne can look forward to with his plans for Sunvale.
http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,21985,25835009-2862,00.html
FRANKSTON'S civic leaders are up in arms over a plan to build almost 400 units for homeless and low-income people in the city, saying they already have a big enough drug and alcohol problem.
But Victorian Housing Minister Richard Wynne pleaded with councillors to get behind plans to build 80 of the 400 units in Playne St.
"The Frankston people really piss me off," Mr Wynne said.
But (the Frankston community's) openness and goodwill does not extend to heavy-handed governments thinking they can simply dump hundreds of homeless and disadvantaged people on our door without consultation, community engagement and assurances that proper support, resourcing and management arrangements will accompany the tenants" Dunkley federal Liberal MP Bruce Billson said.

Its not just what is planned for Sunvale it is the 3 Towers as well
Dick and Nick can expect one heck of a community wide blue if they dont get their heads into a model of social housing that disperses social housing throughout the residential areas of Melbourne rather than concentrate it in big lumps on sites in suburbs where high concentrations of disadvantage already exist (without adequate community infastructure to support them now).
In Sunshine Dick n Nick can expect what is happening in Frankston plus some more if they think this community is going to accept a half baked second rate sub standard model of community development.
Get you act together boys and think holistically about how to deliver a set of social housing and support services in the community without creating an urban nightmare.

Council wants to re zone the land under the Sunshine Chambers from public access to residential.
Low cost residential, that is.

The manouvering continues. Not only is Nicky admitting the costs for this stupid idea will blow out of all control, (since there is no control to begin with) but the residents themselves are being used as the excuse to pump the costs up.
http://www.starnewsgroup.com.au/story/77769
BRIMBANK City Council has admitted the cost of its new civic precinct could surpass the $30-million price tag forecast in this year’s budget.
The revelations follow renewed calls from ratepayers, community groups, politicians and some councillors for the abandonment of the plan and for money to be better spent in the community.
"Current community forums are realising interesting ideas worthy of further investigation and identifying potential sites (for the precinct) not owned by Council.
"If some of these ideas are ultimately adopted, it could lead to cost increases, for example, if land is required to be purchased."

28 July 2009
*Council Backflip on Sunvale site.
*CEO in serious trouble for running dodgy programs.
*Pressure on council showing.
"The Council began advocating for low cost high density housing on the site in November 2008. Now we believe that strong, continued advocacy to the State Government is required to ensure that the open space is provided to the Council as a component of any development.

Les Tarczon put it pretty well in the Star this week (28.7.09 p2):
"There's no respect in this community for some councillors" he said. "The people don't trust them and that's a fact."
Sure is.

The same planning principles apply to Sunvale school site
Seems that the town planners at Brimbank haven't listened to the city's social and health and wellbeing planners.
Or maybe the planning problem is at the top of the pile in the CEO's office?
My question is :
Who actually decided that 0.8 hectares of open space surrounded by a swathe of affordable housing was the right option for future use of the Sunvale school site? And how was that decision reached?

We must plan for the health of all
Letters

KIM Dovey and other experts deplored the decision to create 40,000 hectares of new suburbs on Melbourne’s fringe (Letters, 1/8). They described the lack of sustainability from an environmental, economic and social point of view. This decision is also deeply flawed from a health perspective. The State Government has mandated detailed public health plans for urban planning in all Victorian municipalities. Yet it is unable to implement health principles in its own planning.
These suburbs will be largely car dependent, with obesity, diabetes, depression and social isolation just some of the likely adverse outcomes.
The infrastructure required will cost many multiples of that existing in already built areas. Increased urban density along tram routes is a much wiser plan on almost every level.
The Department of Health was not on the task force that developed this plan, but VicRoads was. It shows. It is time health was integrated in the initial planning stages of all major projects. When it comes to health, the state needs to practise what it preaches.

I measured it out as 105 metres (southern boundary) x 130 metres (western boundary) up to the houses on the corner, then 27 metres x 70 metres for the remainder.
That's just under 16,000 metres square which is 1.6 hectares.
