TAXPAYER-funded spending on government advertising reached a record $124million last financial year, forcing the Brumby government to defend its advertising blitz in the lead-up to November's state election.
The opposition also pointed out last week that the Brumby government's spending on advertising was almost matching what the Commonwealth paid across Australia. |

PREMIER John Brumby tried to placate dumped backbencher Craig Langdon with the prize of a government job, the former member for Ivanhoe, who quit dramatically last week, has claimed.
"Other people have been given positions, both voluntary and paid," Mr Langdon claims Mr Brumby said to him. "You could well be entitled to one of those."
"I took it as being on the board of a water authority, something like Marilyn Duncan got," Mr Langdon said yesterday. He thought the Premier was saying "toe the line and you will be looked after".
Why does this line "You could well be entitled to one of those." in the ALP context make my flesh crawl? Mates everywhere sucking vampire like on the workers veins. Looked after for services rendered and silence bought, the shit pile under the carpet stinking away while everyone tries to ignore the stench that is the modern ALP. Please can someone find me a nice quiet cave to hide in, I cannot stand anymore hype and spin, I have just had enough. |

The cops truly know |

SENIOR members of Victoria Police wanted a stand-alone anti-corruption commission rather than the Office of Police Integrity and the new Proust model adopted by the Brumby government is a "bit haphazard". |

Caught again |
The scheming bastards are still at it.
http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/voters-shunted-on-rail-project-20100830-147cu.html
THE state government has been caught trying to limit the options for residents to have their say about a controversial new rail line that will destroy dozens of homes in Labor's heartland western suburbs.
The revelation of the scheming to try to reduce options for people to object to the rail line is an embarrassment for the government less than three months from the November 27 election.
Premier John Brumby is already under fire for bungling last month's announcement of the proposed route, Mr Madden is also under siege over the government's record on listening to the community |

The real dirt |
http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/delahunty-memoir-reveals-developer-sway-on-planning-20100821-13a1i.html
In contrast to the assurances of Premier John Brumby and Planning Minister Justin Madden, Ms Delahunty says developers who make donations to the Labor Party do get their interests looked after by Brumby government advisers, who sometimes contact the planning minister's office inquiring about the development's progress.
The Brumby government has consistently denied that developers get special access or treatment due to their donations, or that they wield influence in Labor fund-raising functions.
Planning Minister Justin Madden was recently criticised for intervening in an increasingly large number of projects, with little transparency around why he is intervening and which Labor-linked lobbying groups are involved. |
